Edward Joseph Filesteel, also known as "Ed or Foxy", passed away on June 27, 2016 due to a series of recent complicated injuries and a recently diagnosed terminal illness. Services for Ed will start Thursday, June 30th, 2016, with his four day feast, at his residence at Three Buttes. Services will start at 3 pm. Wake services will be held starting at 12 noon to 6 pm at his residence at Three Buttes on July 1st, 2016. He will be moved to the Kills At Night Community Building in Hays for the Wake Services that evening at 6 pm. Funeral Services will be held at 9 am Saturday, July 2nd, 2016 with final internment at the Filesteel Family Cemetery at Three Buttes. Edward was born to Katie Capture Filesteel and Thomas Filesteel on September 7, 1931. He married Faye Dean Plumage in 1961. From this union 5 children were born, Edward Thomas, John Joseph, Lisa Marie, Katherine Jo, and Connie Lynn. He was a lifetime resident, rancher, and strong Gros-Ventre Advocate from Hays, Mt. He served as a lifetime member of the Gros-Ventre Treaty Committee which he was very passionate about. He also operated a very successful ranching/farming operation at Three Buttes which was also very important to him. Ed served his country enlisting in the US Air Force in 1950 and was Honorably Discharged in September 14th, 1954. He was stationed at the Wakkanai Air Force Detachment, Japan, serving during the Korean War as an Air Traffic Controller. Ed is survived by his sons: Edward T. "Tom" (Mitchelene) Filesteel, John J. "Muggy" (Marlys) Filesteel, Lisa M. (Walter) Horn, Katherine J. (Larry) Filesteel-LeBeau, and Connie L. (John) Coliflower, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is survived by his brothers: Benedict Striker and John Matthew Stiffarm, and sisters: Helen Striker Bell and Dr. Lenore Stiffarm. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jasper Cochran; sisters: Thelma Striker Yellowtail and Ramona Striker Cliff; and brothers: Lawrence Striker, Carl "Butter" Stiffarm and Louie Stiffarm.
