Ronald Claude Virts

Ronald Claude Virts
Born: Jan 31, 1942
Died: Aug 30, 2014

One very special and amazing man to his family and friends, Ronald Claude Virts, 72, passed away surrounded by loved ones on August 30, 2014 at Benefis Hospital in Great Falls, Montana. Ron's request was to be cremated and to have his ashes spread at Fort Peck Lake. The request for spreading of the ashes will be honored at a later date next summer by his family during a camping trip to celebrate Ron’s life and do the things he enjoyed so much. The family has requested that memorials be made in Ronald’s name to the Havre Police Protective Association, 520 Fourth Street, Havre, MT 59501.
Ron was born to Dalphon “D.C.” and Mildred Faye (Blalock) Virts on January 31, 1942 at the family home near Kell, Illinois.  Ron graduated from Glasgow High School in 1960.  He held many jobs in his life before choosing his career in law enforcement.  He graduated from the Montana Law Enforcement Academy in 1980.  He worked in law enforcement with the Plentywood Police Department, Sheridan County Sheriff’s Department, Nashua Police Department, Valley County Sheriff’s Department, Malta Police Department, Fromberg Police Department, Carbon County Sheriff’s Department, and Bridger Police Department.  He established many great and long lasting relationships during his career and life.
Ron enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, Amanda, Jeni, and Lori.  The girls were able to get their Papa to watch their new favorite shows Jesse, Full House, America’s Funniest Videos, and Hee Haw with them and give them candy, root beer floats or ice cream.  Ron’s granddaughter Kirsten remembers always convincing her Papa into getting her a frosted sugar cookie from the Maverick which ended up being a 12 mile roundtrip and their many all day long fishing trips.  Ron’s most memorable trip was the surprise father son trip with Larry to Seattle for a Mariners vs Cubs game, sightseeing, and eating the “Alaskan Feast”.  His family and friends remember the times spent camping, boating, and fishing with Ron at Fort Peck Lake and summer trips to Big Timber Waterslides.  His stepdaughter Tina very much appreciated him taking her in as his own child and raising her to be the person she is today and for being the best grandfather to her children.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his son, Larry and his girlfriend Erin Verploegen, of Havre; his stepdaughter, Tina (Todd) Mord of Zurich; his step granddaughters, Kirsten (Lee) Matkin of Chinook; Amanda, Jeni, and Lori Mord of Zurich; his grandsons, Peyton and Parker Virts of Helena; his step great grandchildren, Harper of Chinook, Colter and April Matkin of Glendive; his brothers, Jerry (Anita) Virts of Belt and Larry (Connie) Virts of Billings; his sister Beverly (David) Whittle of Powell, Wyoming; his niece Joanna Whittle of Bozeman; his nephews, Jeremy (Christi) Virts of Great Falls and Joshua Virts of Nevada; his great nieces: Abbie, Rylee, Caitlyn, Chloe, and Ashley Virts of Great Falls; his ex-wife and friend Coleen Kautt of Malta; his good friend Cheryl Friede of Chinook; his aunt Louise Heflin; his cousin Jeannie Squibb; extended family and friends. Ron has two daughters, Michelle and Tina Louise, and a son Michael, with his ex-wife Cheryl Tovey and a son Robert with ex-wife Dixie Brandt. He may have lost contact with them but still loved them very much.

Dear Virts Family, I was just told about Ron's passing and I am sad about the news. I am no longer a part of the Brandt family so I do not hear much any longer. Ron was a very nice man and It was a pleasure to know him and send him pictures of Peyton and Parker. I am sure your whole family will miss him a great deal. Again I am sorry for your loss.
