Theresa DeCelles Delorme, 99 years old, died of natural causes on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at home surrounded by family. Rosary services will be Friday, October 31, 2014 at 7:00 pm at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Harlem. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 10:00 am at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Harlem. Arrangements have been made with Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook. Theresa, the last member of her family, was born on the Fort Belknap Reservation on August 1, 1915 to August “Gus” DeCelles and Nancy Adams DeCelles. Theresa was the fifth child born of eleven children. Theresa attended school at the Fort Belknap Indian Boarding School until the 6th grade and entered the 7th grade at Chemawa Boarding School near Salem, Oregon where she also graduated from high school. Theresa attended and graduated from Haskell Junior College located in Lawrence, Kansas.
Theresa married Fred Delorme and they were happily married for 66 years. While her husband was in the Armed Forces, Theresa spent some years in Browning, Montana, employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and then transferred back to Fort Belknap Agency where she retired in 1978. She and her husband spent years traveling throughout Montana and vacationed in Las Vegas once a year.
Never having children of her own, Theresa raised two nieces as daughters, Carole Falcon-Chandler and Diane DeCelles Perez. She is survived by nieces Donna Rumgay Rosenberg, Carole Falcon-Chandler (Al), Diane (Randy) Perez, Irene DeCelles Crasco, and Julie DeCelles all of Harlem, Mt., Cheryl DeCelles Antar (Ishmael), Aberdeen, S.D, Doris DeCelles Dutra, Tsuntontm, Mass., Caroline DeCelles Tyler, Thelma DeCelles Aldridge, and Nancy DeCelles Valdez all of Great Falls, Mt., nephews, Tom DeCelles, Las Vegas, Nev., Jon DeCelles, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Richard DeCelles, Wolf Point, Mt., Ted DeCelles (Peggy) her h and Dallas DeCelles, Great Falls, Mt., several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, parents Thomas and Nancy Adams DeCelles; sisters, Thelma Rumgay, Mae Falcon, Martha Gaines, and infant Cecelia DeCelles; brothers August (Buzzy), Walter, Teddy, Matt, Charlie and Cecil DeCelles.
