Margaret Lucille Kaufman

Margaret Lucille (Pike) Kaufman, 99, passed away peacefully at Sweet Nursing Home in Chinook of natural causes. Burial will be at the Harlem cemetery on Thursday November 6, 2014 at 1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at the Methodist Church in Chinook at 2:30 pm. Arrangements are being made by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
Margaret was born March 13, 1915 to Nick and Daisy (Sparks) Pike. She attended school at Zurich, graduated high school in Chinook and obtained a teaching certificate from Northern Montana College in Havre. She went on to teach school at Prestbo School north of Zurich, staying with the Prestbo family for $30 a month. She also taught in Harlem, Zurich and the TU School south of Chinook.
Margaret married Edwin (Bud) Benson in December of 1946. They lived in the Bear Paw Mountains for a time and Margaret taught at the TU School. They later moved to Paradise Valley out of Harlem. Together they had a son, John.
Bud died in 1969. Margaret married Ted Kaufman in 1972 and they moved to Chinook. Margaret enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She remained active throughout her lifetime and could be seen walking to and from the grocery store and post office well into her 90’s.
Margaret moved to Sweet Home in June of 2012 and continued to enjoy visiting with people, remaining her same cheerful self to the end.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Bob and John, sister, Alice, husbands Bud Benson and Ted Kaufman. She is survived by her son John (Carletta) Benson of LodgePole, six grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
