Dwane "Trapper" Wannamaker

Dwane Walter Wannamaker sometimes known as “Grizzly Adams or Trapper”, passed away on December 25, 2014, at Northern Montana Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2014, at 11:00 am at the Edwards Funeral Chapel in Chinook Montana followed by a reception at the American Lutheran Church basement. Arrangements have been made with Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
Dwane was born on August 12, 1935 in Kimball, South Dakota to Fred E. and Bessie (Trickey) Wannamaker. He enlisted into the Army in 1954 serving in Korea and was discharged in 1957. He lived and worked in Kimball, South Dakota, California, and Idaho before coming to Montana. Dwane worked in the Chinook area for most of his adult life. Dwane enjoyed visits from family and friends, reading, fishing, hunting, catching rattlesnakes, and trapping.
Dwane helped with the raising of his niece Kathy and nephew Allen after the passing of their father, and is also a surrogate grandfather to the children of Jess and Connie Murphy of Chinook; Amanda Jackson, (East Helena, MT), Adam Murphy and Crystal Stepper of Chinook.
Dwane is preceded in death by his parents, Sister Bernice (Wannamaker) Cummings, two brother-in-laws, two nephews and one niece of Kimball, South Dakota and one brother-in-law of California.
Surviving are two sisters Norma Frasier of Idaho, and Rovilla Wills of Kimball, South Dakota, two brothers, Silas (Mary Kroger) of Olivet, SD and Fred (Margie Lindon) of Red Bluff California and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be sent to the National Rifle Association or to one’s choice.
