On June 1, 1952, she married Jack Gist, her high school sweetheart. They made their first home on the Gist Ranch in the Missouri River Breaks on Bullwacker Creek. When they returned from Louisiana, they lived and worked on several places in Hill and Blaine counties before buying their own place east of Chinook in 1977.
Ora was very well known for her baked goods and canning and candy making skills. She enjoyed crafts of all kinds--sewing, crocheting, knitting, leather tooling, beading and more. Another source of entertainment that she enjoyed, was going to the casino with her sister June.
