Ora Beverly Chapman Gist died at home on February 27, 2015 due to complications from congestive heart failure.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 11:00 at the Edwards Funeral Home in Chinook.  Arrangements have been made with Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.

Ora was born on November 25, 1934 to Earl and Thea Chapman at their home in Paradise Valley, near Chinook.  She was the youngest of eight children.  She attended Lower Paradise, Zurich, Hebbelman Elementary and Junior High Schools and Chinook High School.

On June 1, 1952, she married Jack Gist, her high school sweetheart.  They made their first home on the Gist Ranch in the Missouri River Breaks on Bullwacker Creek.  From there they moved to Louisiana while Jack served in the military.  It was here their first child was born.  When they returned from Louisiana, they lived and worked on several places in Hill and Blaine counties before buying their own place east of Chinook in 1977.

Ora was very well known for her baked goods and canning and candy making skills.  She enjoyed crafts of all kinds--sewing, crocheting, knitting, leather tooling, beading and more.  She also enjoyed her garden, which always included one of the newest vegetables or flowers found in the latest seed catalog.

Another source of entertainment that she enjoyed, was going to the casino with her sister June.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Jack Gist of Chinook; children: Vicki Gist of Havre, Steven (Ginny) Gist of Whitefish, Joel Gist of Chinook, Terri Gist (Wynne) Rolf of Havre, Debra Gist Hockley of Saratoga, Wyoming, and Clinton (Dottie) Gist of Silverdale, Washington. Grandchildren: Jody, Jessie, and Jacki Gist; Samuel and Taten Hockley; and Heather and Justin Rolf; and step-grandchildren: Whelen and Hannah O'Brien. She is also survived by her sister June Elges of Big Timber, brother Earl (Florence) Chapman of Oreville, California, sister-in-laws Judy Chapman and Catherine Gist-Morgan of Chinook, cousin Betty Lou (Stewart) Belling of Chewelah, Washington, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ora was preceded in death by her grandson Cordel Hockley, brothers Roy, Vern and Francis Chapman; sisters Lois Chapman Rowley and Doris Chapman Johnson; and her parents.
