Frederick Vincent Gone

Frederick Vincent Gone, 84, passed away of March 1, 2015 at the Billings Clinic Hospital in Billings, Montana. Fred was born on May 25, 1930 to Fred and Mary (John) Gone on the Fort Belknap Reservation. At age 17, Fred enlisted in the Air Force. In 1950, he also served in the U. S. Army. Fred had a long and successful career as a Chemical Dependency Counselor; Native Spiritual and Cultural Advisor for Native Inmates at Alternatives, Inc. in Billings, Montana. Fred also worked for many years at Fort Belknap as a Cultural Counselor Coordinator and CDC counselor. He received many special recognitions during his career. Mr. Gone founded the 1st Native American Church Charter for the Ft. Belknap Community. Fred was one of the last fluent speakers of the male version of the Gros Ventre language.
Fred is survived by wife, Sylvia Turnsplenty Gone, and adopted daughter Toni Not Afraid, and Lucy and Bertha Gone. Grandsons that survive are Tim (Tasha) Medicine Horse, Frederick Lee (Harmony) Gone, Jesse Gone, Alaton (Michayla) Smart Enemy. Granddaughters are Taleshia Hugs, Patricia and Shawn Smart Enemy, Mary Lee Not Afraid and Moriah Maldonado.
Extended surviving family include, Crooked Arm, Spotted Bear, Coffee, MyrickMurie, Windy Boy, Blackbird and White Cow. Please accept our apology is we have forgotten you.
Wake services were held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 7:00 pm at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Belknap. A graveside service was held on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Harlem Cemetery. Arrangements have been made with Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
