Mary Burton Calvert

Mary B. Calvert, 96, passed away May 27, 2015 in Malta. Wake services will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 7:00 pm at the Edwards Funeral Home in Chinook. Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 1:30 pm at the Harlem Cemetery in Harlem. Arrangements have been made with Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook. Mary was born on July 23, 1918 To Morris and Ella Burton. The attended 12 years of school in Harlem graduating in 1936. She then attended The Great Falls Commercial College; on completion she was employed by the American Red Cross until the time of her marriage to Leonard Calvert on November 19, 1938. They built a house in Great Falls and lived there where their daughters Marla and Diane were born. They then moved to Bend, Oregon for a short time then moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where their son Dick was born. In 1945 they came to Harlem to visit and made the decision to purchase a farm in East Milk River Valley. They farmed there for several years before retiring in about 1979 and moving to Harlem.
Through the years Mary was employed in Harlem as several places. She was well known for her homemade donuts, cinnamon rolls and pies at Churchill's Cafe. She served ice cream at the store that was next door to the theater. Waited on customers and carried groceries out for the shoppers at the Merry Market. She worked at the Harlem Bank for several years and finally retired to enjoy her home and garden.
Mary was active at the Presbyterian Church for many years and was on The Board and active at the Harlem Senior Center.
Many will remember Mary's yard and flowers. She was selected "garden of the month" several times. She took great pride in having a nice yard. She was always ready to donate flowers, rides to anyone who needed to go to the Dr. etc and of course the raisin pies (especially for Frank and Charlie).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Len Calvert and their daughter, Diane. She is survived by her son Dick Calvert (Debbie) and daughter Marla Bittinger of Aurora, Colorado. Also grandchildren Dan (Lisa) Bittinger, Bob (Tess) Bittinger, Sandra (Jason) Howard, Ben (Claudene) Calvert and Brian (Karensa) Calvert, Casey Prindiville, Todd (Kelli) Prindiville and Scott Prindiville; twenty great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
